Dear Friends of Pietro Ferrua,
It was with great sadness that we announced the death of Dr. Pietro Michele Stefano Ferrua, who died on July 28, 2021, at around 6:20 a.m., at Cedar Sinai Park / Howard Schnitzer Center for Living, in Portland, Oregon.
Thankfully, he was not alone; three of his friends were with him.
Pietro was 90 years old when he expired after a slow, two-year decline in his health. He would have been 91 on September 18, 2021.
Words are woefully inadequate to capture the tremendous impact Pietro had on academia, the humanities, the world of translation and conference interpretation, and especially on his students and friends. His résumé just scratched the surface of his accomplishments...
Pietro was a...
- Son, father, husband
- Loyal friend
- Altruist
- University professor
- Interpreter
- Polyglot
- Author
- Avant-garde artist
- Bibliophile
- Gourmet chef
- Wine expert
- Film enthusiast
- Music connoisseur
- World traveler
But more importantly, he was Truly Admirable Man:
Pietro was honest with others and with himself
He received gratefully and gave quietly
He was gentle enough to feel
And strong enough to show his feelings
He was slow to see the faults of others
But quick to discover their goodness
He was cheerful in difficult times
And modest in success
He was always true to his beliefs
Pietro was truly an Admirable Man.
